Cegedim Rx improves usability for EPS release 2
Cegedim Rx has introduced usability improvements to its electronic prescription module in the latest release of its Pharmacy Manager PMR system, ahead of its EPS Release 2 roll out.
The improvements are a result of working closely with Liptrot’s Pharmacy, the first pharmacy in England to pilot EPS Release 2, to discover ways to help pharmacists with their forthcoming transition. Cegedim Rx has introduced new time-saving measures to make the day-to-day running of its customers’ pharmacies run more smoothly whilst ensuring pharmacists retain clinical control.
EPS Trusted Directions
Pharmacy Manager can now use the prescribed directions from electronic prescription messages. Previously, Pharmacy Manager has not copied this text over automatically to ensure pharmacists retain control. A new process has now alleviated any concerns and brought increased clinical safety and speed to pharmacists.
Pharmacists simply map the wording style of directions used by local GPs to their preferred directions. Every time a prescription is dispensed Pharmacy Manager will intelligently check the GP instructions and match these with the pharmacist’s preferred wordings, transferring these trusted directions onto the dispensing label. Pharmacists retain full control over the information their patients receive whilst saving time.
Quantity and Dosage Matching for Repeats
Pharmacists can choose to allow Pharmacy Manager to compare the dosage and quantity on the electronic prescription with the patient’s history, to identify if they have been prescribed the drug before, if the instructions match previous ones and if it is safe to bring over past instructions. If the values match, the previous directions will be transferred to the label and if they are different, the system will alert the pharmacist. Pharmacists remain in control, blind repeat errors are reduced, and workflows are faster.
Expired Prescriptions
To support the electronic prescription service, prescriptions are now checked whenever an action on a prescription is taken. Any expired prescriptions are alerted to the pharmacist, marked as expired and removed from the default view of the eMessages tab. This prevents any unnecessary work being undertaken on expired prescriptions.
Detailed Prescription Status Information
Retrieved prescriptions are stored in the eMessages tab and new, more descriptive, statuses provide pharmacists with information on what to do now in addition to what has just happened. For example, New – Ready to dispense, Part notified – Outstanding owings. Pharmacists can also locate particular eMessages more easily through a selection of advanced filters.
Natalie Wilson, Marketing Manager at Cegedim Rx, commented, “Cegedim Rx recognises that the introduction of EPS R2 will cause changes to pharmacy processes and has made these improvements to help make the transition as easy as possible.”
